This site is a tribute to Mary Sleeman, who was born at Colquite Farm, St Mabyn on January 27, 1936. Also known to some friends as Trudy but later in life preferred to be known by her first name Mary.
She is much loved and will always be fondly remembered by all her family and friends. Loving and caring Mum to Marianne, Angela and John. Doting Granny to Lianne, Tom, Elliot, Owen, Jack and Charlie. A very special Great Granny to Felix and Rupert who loved to spoil their Great Granny with hugs and kisses. Loving sister to John Knowles, Ann Cleave and Norman Knowles. Always kind and thoughtful Auntie to Phillip, Debbie, William and Kevin.
Mary started her working life as a nurse but due to a dislike of needles had to take a change in direction and became a nanny.
Mary had a passion for music, especially Glenn Miller. Elvis Presley and musicals. She was a talented pianist and enjoyed playing a few of her favourite tunes from memory most noticeable the theme tune from the classic film, The Third Man.
Sadly Mary was unexpectedly taken ill with a suspected heart attack that lead to a short time in hospital before she passed away peacefully on 4th December.
Her heart was always in the right place and she was particularly moved by the suffering of children fighting against cancer and other life limiting diseases. It was her own express wish that any contributions would be donated equally to Children’s Hospice South West and CLIC Sargent cancer care for children.
We appreciate any contribution you can make but you can also just leave a message as part of this tribute and we will be truly happy that you took the time to share with us. Thank you.
In loving memory of a special sister. Remember you always. You were always kind, brave and thoughtful. We love you very much. We will always miss you, you will always be remembered in our hearts. God bless you.
